2016 Queen's Vase

Another quality race on day 4 of the Royal Ascot festival is the Queens Vase which is run over the extreme distance of 2 miles and is an opportunity for the stayers to pick up a group 3 prize. The Royal Ascot Betting Odds on the Queen's Vase is generally very open and competitive and most of the runners are attempting to get this 2 mile for the first time and this leaves a lot for punters to think about.

Mark Johnston's Hartnell was a gutsy winner of the Queen's Vase as under a power-packed ride from Joe Fanning he managed to fend off a late rally from Aidan O'Brien's Century, with the heavily-backed Marzocco completing the placings in a thrilling finish to the staying contest

Leading Light quashed any stamina doubts that were cast over him as the well-backed Aidan O'Brien-trained raider fought off a spirited effort from Feel Like Dancing to land the Queen's Vase on the fourth day at Royal Ascot.

Turning for home, the Ballydoyle raider was sent for home from a long way out and it was Tom Queally on board Disclaimer who shaped the best, but he struggled to see out the trip and it was John Gosden's Feel Like Dancing that was staying on the best, but O'Brien managed to outbattle the 20/1 second with Boite staying on the best of the rest to complete the placings.

One can always rely on Mark Johnston to have a good stayer in his stable and he certainly has one here in the form of Melrose Avenue and while he did cause his backers some concern having to be pushed along from a long way out he kept finding for his jockey Kevin Darley and in the end just getting the better of his opposition.

1 Melrose Avenue 4-1
2 Mr Vegas 11-1
3 Helvetio 11-2
