Dawn Approach bounced back from his Epsom Derby flop by battling to victory over Toronado in what was a thrilling finish to the St James's Palace Stakes in which the pair were split by a short head at the end of the Group One renewal.
Richard Hughes stalked the 5/4 favourite Dawn Approach on board Toronado, but both their runs were slightly affected by Glory Awaits bumping them a couple of furlongs out, but the pair picked up in taking fashion and fought a cracking finish in the final furlong.
Manning managed to hold off the 5/1 Richard Hannon-trained raider to land the spoils by a short margin with Mars completing the places in what was a phenomenal renewal of the day one highlight at Royal Ascot.
